Tours

Due to State public health mandates, tour guests will be limited to outdoor areas only.  All tickets must be pre-purchased at jolietmuseum.org.

  • To get member or resident discount, identification must be shown at check-in at the prison.
  • All participants will be required to sign a digital waiver of liability/hold harmless agreement before entering.
  • All tours ours enter at Western Gate via Hills Avenue (north side of Prison).
  • Closed toe shoes should be worn and dress for the weather as tours will be happening rain or shine.

Please check your calendar before purchasing your tickets. Once sold, tickets are non-refundable.

At the current time, tours are not ADA approved. 70% of the tour is accessible for all patrons.

Self-Guided Tours

Strict limit of 10 individuals per appointment window (every quarter hour).
Tours begin at 9:00 am and end at 5:00 pm.
Tour duration will be limited to approximately 90 minutes to assist with public health guidelines.

  • $20 per adult
  • Museum Members and Joliet Residents, $15 per adult.
  • $10 per child (ages 3-12)
  • Children under 3 are free (reservations are still required

Guided History Tours

Led by Certified Museum Guide.
Mondays, Thursdays, Saturdays, and Sundays at 11:00 am & 1:00 pm.
Tours limited to nine participants

  • $30 per person (no discounts), ages 10 and up

Guard Tours

Led by former Prison employees.
Alternating Saturdays and Sundays, 9:00 am.
Groups limited to eight participants.

  • $40 per person (no discount), recommended for those aged 16 and up

Haunted History Tours

True stories of some of the prison’s most notorious residents.  NOTE:  This tour does not involve ghost hunting or paranormal activities.
Fridays, 6:00pm and 8:00 pm.
Groups limited to eight participants.

  • $30 per person (no discounts)

Photography Tours

Amateur or professional photographers.  Bring tripods and wander the grounds.
Alternating Sundays, four-hour window.

  • $50 per person (no discount)
